Cairns- Darwin road trip, 10th October- 26th October 2006

A captivating image you don't see everyday...a guitar litteraly burning out!
It unfortunately snapped whilst we were traveling and we decided to set it on fire to get a few photos...silly??
Maybe, what were we to do with a guitar we couldn't fix in a car that was yet packed?
Flames are dancing around as if the instrument was playing for them, what a stunning harmony!

A classic in the middle of the outback, wine and candles, australian romance...

We left Cairns by the 10th of October, heading through the Savannah way (north route) towards Darwin.
You need a 4 wheel drive to hit the road that way as most of the route is unsealed...and that's the reason why most travellers head through the south route.
Another 4 wheel drive joined the crew which was finally composed by Steve (scottish), B (english, his girlfriend), Alex (scottish), Ouri (israeli), Diana (american, his girlfriend), and myself...
A wicked 16 day trip and 3000kms between Cairns and Darwin which would be a way too long to describe right now...although it'll be my pleasure when I'll catch up with you guys!

But being honest, and quite related to what I've experienced during the past 2 years travelling, it's something you've got to feel and can't really put in words...it's all about freedom which became rare nowadays in a westernised environment.

The camp site in the middle of freaking nowhere...

Kayaking on a dodgy river with kangaroos grazing around...

Steve and I chilling out.

Unexpected encounters...

A sand tornado, common phenomenon in Northern Territory.

The biggest croc ever recorded in Australia and its next victim...

Termites mounds everywhere!

Fancy a drink??

Funny road signs...

A wise man I've met on my way...

Feeling lucky???

"And this loneliness won't leave me alone..." (Otis Redding)

Swimming, snorkelling and free diving with reptiles...
